Employee Spotlight
Don Loomis – Estimating Engineer
Damian Cyr – Manufacturing Engineer
In our Employee Spotlight this month, we want to share a little more about two additions to the Eck Team, our Estimating Engineer, Don Loomis, and our new Manufacturing Engineer, Damian Cyr.
Don is the person to talk to, if you want to find out what Eck’s manufacturing capabilities can do for you. He and his team work to bring your ideas into the world as tangible products. They are the People who know the Process to get you the Parts you need.
Damian is not only new to Eck, but new to New York. Originally from Kansas, where he studied and worked as a Mechanical Engineer, we hired Damian because he is a top-notch Engineer.
He ensures our processes operate at their peak efficiency so we can always meet or beat deadlines. His work is essential to our operation and we are happy to give Damian the chance to share a little about himself.
Don Loomis – Estimating Engineer
Who are some of your biggest inspirations within the company?
My biggest inspiration within the company is the teamwork between all the different players involved. Everyone I have dealt with here works for a common goal. When we work together it feels like a well-conditioned and maintained vehicle.
How do you see working for ECK will grow your career?
Eck Plastics has a broad range of subject matter experts from injection molding and vacuum forming to machining operations and CNC fabrication. Learning from their experiences is one of the keys to being successful in the future. There are opportunities with design capabilities and drafting as well, which can be challenging and lets me step out of my comfort zone.
What got you interested in Sales and Engineering?
Partnering with the customer has been my goal since I first started my career. For nearly 25 years my goal has been to give the customer the best product available for their limited resources. I realized at an early age: when the customer succeeds, everyone succeeds.
What is the most unique part about working for Eck?
There is something magical about taking a shapeless piece of plastic and forming, molding, or machining it into a final complex useful end product. It is about combining the technical skills with artistic vision to breathe life into the customer’s concept.
Which parts of Eck’s mission do you connect most with?
I connect most with meeting or exceeding the customer’s expectations. I like to think we partner with our customers, to give them a symbiotic relationship in which both companies can succeed.
What is your Eck team like?
Extremely knowledgeable in many aspects of machining, fabrication, and design. Everyone is willing to help each other, regardless if they are in that department or not. We believe the ultimate goal is to get a great product to the customer, on time, and within budget.
What exactly do you do at Eck?
As the Estimating Engineer, I am the initial customer contact to determine if the scope of work is possible and, if so, what are the efficiencies and skills we can leverage to exceed their expectations with a great product.
When you are at work, how do you motivate yourself?
My goal is to see the customer prosper and give them more opportunities for growth and improvement. Their success is my success. My biggest cheerleader to thrive is my wife. Her love and support help motivate to succeed in everything. Additionally, having a cheerleading squad with four kids always adds to the motivation to do my best work.
We’re proud of what Don does, and what he brings to the Eck team. If you want to work with his people on an idea, you can fill out our short request form to get the process started.
Damian Cyr – Manufacturing Engineer
What got you interested in Sales and Engineering?
I got interested in engineering when as a kid, I’d take things apart to figure out how they worked.
What is the most unique part about working for Eck?
Seeing the variety of different parts we make and the variety of processes we use to make them is a unique part of working here.
Which parts of Eck’s mission do you connect most with?
I connect most with continually improving our processes. Like people, our processes should constantly be improving and getting better.
What exactly do you do at Eck?
I am a Manufacturing Engineer. I help document and improve our processes, develop new processes for new parts, and troubleshoot and solve manufacturing problems as they arise. I endeavor to make sure we perform our work safely in a safe working environment. I also ensure we have the right tools for the job to make quality parts. Like many people at Eck, however, I wear many hats and try to learn as much as I can.
When you are at work, how do you motivate yourself?
I just try to leave everything just a little better than I found it.
